Moab isn’t just a destination — it’s an adventure playground where epic red rock formations meet starry desert nights. Whether you’re drawn by the towering arches, sweeping canyons, or the chance to explore on rugged trails, Moab offers a breathtaking stage for saying “I do.” We will show you all there is with Moab Elopement Tips: Permits, Jeeping & Planning Your Adventure
And we should know — we said our own vows right here in this incredible desert. Over the years, we’ve helped countless couples create intentional, unforgettable Moab elopements, from sunrise ceremonies to sunset Jeep adventures.
One of the most common questions we hear: “Do we need a permit?”
For most BLM land around Moab (like the popular overlooks or dispersed spots), you’ll usually need a Special Recreation Permit (SRP) if your ceremony is commercial (meaning you’re hiring a photographer, officiant, etc.). These are typically easy to get, but you should apply at least a few months in advance to secure your date.
For places inside a national park, like Arches or Canyonlands, you’ll absolutely need a special use permit. Each park has its own rules on where ceremonies are allowed and how large they can be.
Don’t worry — we’ll help guide you through the permit process step by step, and even fill out some of the paperwork with you. Your job? Just show up ready for the best day ever.
Want to take your elopement to the next level? Moab is famous for its off-roading — and hiring a private Jeep tour or driving your own 4×4 lets you reach jaw-dropping, secluded locations.
Some of our couples choose to:
Drive out to a high overlook at sunrise, completely alone in the desert. Stop for adventure portraits on slickrock or under giant stone arches.
Pop champagne after the ceremony on a remote trail with no one else for mile
Pro tip: if you’re new to Moab trails, hire a guide or driver. They’ll take care of the technical stuff so you can focus on soaking in the moment (and not worry about your tires).
Because Moab’s desert environment is extreme, timing is everything.
We build custom timelines for every couple to ensure you get the most beautiful light without feeling rushed — and still have time for celebrating, stargazing, or hitting your favorite local taco joint after.
Wear hiking boots or sturdy sandals. Even if you’re in a flowy gown or sharp suit, you’ll be grateful for traction.
Bring plenty of water. Moab’s dry heat can sneak up on you.
Don’t forget permits, licenses & IDs. We’ll help double-check you’re covered.
Pack layers. Even summer mornings can be chilly.
We’re a husband-and-wife photo + video team who fell in love (and got married) in Moab, so this desert means everything to us. From permit help to finding the coolest Jeep trails, we’re here to make your day effortless, wildly fun, and true to you.
